NEC Map by State: 7/1/23

Below are maps of the United States depicting what National Electrical Code year each state follows and when they will update their Code year as of 7/1/23.

NEC Code Adoption by State as of 7/1/23
NEC (National Electrical Code) is fickle in the fact that although it comes out with a new Code every 3 years (including this year with their NEC Handbook 2023 edition) it takes time for each state to officially adopt a given Code year. Some states work to stay current (such as Massachusetts which has 2020 Code and is working on updating to 2023) while some states lag behind (Kansas has followed 2008 Code since 2008) and others leave it up to their counties or cities to decide what they follow (such as Arizona). There are also some odd stipulations, such as the state of New York following 2017 Code, but New York City follows 2008 Code. Here is a map of each state and which NEC Code year they follow as of 7/1/23.

NEC Code Update by State as of 7/1/23
As stated before, this map is ever changing. As of today, 7/1/23, this is where each state lies with NEC updates, but we at NSS will be sure to update this map when any states change their Code year in the coming future.
